Action Sustainability - that's what we do​
The Sustainability Tool is owned and operated by Action Sustainability, a specialist consultancy business in sustainable procurement and supply chain engagement, with a focus on the built environment sector. Since 2012, we have been the delivery partner for the award-winning Supply Chain Sustainability School. We also led the UK and Australian delegations in developing the ISO 20400 Standard for Sustainable Procurement, published in 2017.
Built from a global legacy​
Our story started when Action Sustainability Director, Shaun McCarthy, was Chair of Commission for a Sustainable London 2012. The complexity of delivering the most sustainable Olympics ever and accompanying public scrutiny called for a robust reporting solution. After extensive market research, Shaun and the team realised no product existed in the market, so we decided to build our own.
A robust data platform​
The Sustainability Tool was first launched in 2014 and implemented on major construction projects in the UK. The market adopted the Sustainability Tool to enforce reporting requirements across their supply chains and hold suppliers to account on their sustainability commitments. From this experience, we launched a new version of our system in 2019 to reflect advancements in client sophistication, enhance our robust data management systems, improve user experience and roll-out new functionality.

We are a passionate team of sustainability consultants specialised in supply chain management and the built environment. We have long been advocates for solutions that are better for business, society and the environment. Our performance management solution is an enabler for better ESG performance and creating stronger, longer-lasting relationships between clients, suppliers and stakeholders.
